Halifax-area under rainfall warning, could make for slick commute

HALIFAX – The Halifax-area remains under a rainfall warning on Tuesday morning with between 30 and 40 millimetres of rain expected into Wednesday.
News 95.7 Meteorologist Richard Zurawski said the temperatures are expected to rise nearly 20 degrees by Tuesday evening, meaning the Halifax region will have a chance of some freezing rain for a brief time as well.
“We’ll start off with some flurries this morning but the temperature is going to rise rather rapidly, so that means we’ve got a slight risk of freezing rain,” Zurawski said.”Then we’re looking at anywhere between 30 and 40 millimetres of rain.”
The ground remains frozen, according to Zurawski, which means the excess rain could create slippery conditions coupled with the above average temperatures.
“Things are going to be really greasy out there,” he said, adding that hydroplaning may become an issue for drivers along with localized flooding.
Zurawski doesn’t think the region will see any more snow for at least the next week.
