Power outage causes some school closures

No lights means no school for some kids in the St. Margarets Bay area.

The Halifax Regional School Board says they’ve had to close three schools because of a power outage.

Students at Five Bridges Junior High, East St. Margaret’s Elementary and St. Margaret’s Bay Elementary are getting a long weekend.

The Nova Scotia Health Authority says they’ve also had to close the St. Margaret’s Bay blood collection clinic.

Nova Scotia Power says a high voltage breaker at the Tidewater Substation failed at midnight, which ties the St. Margaret’s Bay hydro facility to the transmission line.
