Halifax man charged with second-degree murder

HALIFAX – A Halifax man has been charged with second degree murder in connection with a death in Spryfield Wednesday.
Police were called to an apartment building on Autumn Drive over the noon hour on Wednesday where responding officers found a man inside who had been stabbed to death.
Speaking to the investigation Wednesday, Cst. Dianne Woodworth with Halifax Regional Police said it was not a random incident.
“We do know that this was not a random act. The victim, who has been positively identified as 26-year-old Blaine Gordon Clothier of Halifax and this man were known to each other,” said Woodworth.
Officers arrested 25-year-old Benjamin Joshua Gillis of Halifax at approximately 2 p.m. Wednesday in an apartment on Inglis Street.
He was in Halifax Provincial Court Thursday afternoon and remanded in custody.
Gillis is due back in court March 24.
