School Board to consider changes to some Eastern Passage elementary schools

By Chris Halef and Mark Hodgins

HALIFAX – The Halifax Regional School Board will be meeting later today to consider changes and recommendations for a number of Eastern Passage schools.

The School Options Committee presented their final recommendations, which have a focus on grade re-configuration, to the school board last week.

The recommendations will undergo review at a meeting with board members Wednesday evening, according to board spokesperson Doug Hadley.

The recommendations suggest Eastern Passage Education Centre serve grades six to eight, while Seaside Elementary, which right now serves students in grades five to six, would move to grades four and five.

Tallahassee and Oceanview elementary schools would move to be primary to grade three.

“They also are recommending a boundary change that would balance the two school populations between Tallahassee and Oceanview,” Hadley said.

Hadley said the recommendations were the result of a public consultation process, and the school board will consider whether or not they can support them when they meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
