HALIFAX – The sea bridge on the Halifax Waterfront is officially open.
Starting Monday, pedestrians will be able to use it to navigate ongoing construction in the area.
The longer-than 150 metre floating dock stretches from the cable wharf’s south side to the museum wharf north.
Waterfront Development President and CEO Jennifer Angel says it’s intended typical operating hours will be 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. once lighting is up and running. Until then, it close when the sun goes down.
She tells NEWS 95.7 the bridge may close for weather, sea state or construction.
“We’re going to err on the side of caution,” said Angel. “If conditions are such that it moves too much or there is any risk to the public, we’ll close the bridge.”
She adds the bridge is only for pedestrians and that wheeled vehicles, like bicycles, must be walked.
Angel says the bridge’s soft launch this weekend was a success, with more than 8,000 people passing over it on Saturday alone.
