Halifax Regional Police have charged two people after reports of robberies Wednesday night in Halifax's north end.
The first robbery happened just before 10:30 p.m. at the Needs Convenience store at the corner of Duffus and Robie streets.
A man went into the business and took out two drinks from the cooler. Police say he went to the counter, pointed a gun at the employee and demanded money.
When the clerk refused, they say the suspect knocked a display case off the counter and left the store with the drinks.
Then, just before midnight, officers were called to the Ultramar at Gottingen and Almon streets where a man went into the store, took a drink from the cooler and went to the counter.
Police say when the employee opened the register, the man slammed an axe on the counter and demanded cash. He ran off with an undisclosed amount of money.
Investigators believe the same suspect is responsible for both robberies, and say he is known to them.
They say he used a white vehicle to get to, and leave, both stores, which police found in an apartment building parking lot on Gottingen Street.
Florangie Moncayo-Adams, 18, of Halifax has been charged with two counts of robbery, and one count each of home invasion, theft over $5,000 and possession of stolen property.
Gregory Hayes of Halifax, 23, of Halifax has been charged with two counts each of robbery, home invasion, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon and breach of court orders, and one count each of using an imitation firearm during an offence, threats, harassment, theft over $5,000 and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
A third man arrested by police has been released without charges.
