Fentanyl seized at Burnside jail

A routine search earlier this year at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility turned up fentanyl.
Nova Scotia's Department of Justice says the package was found on February 9th, but the contents weren't known at that time.
It was handed over to Halifax Regional Police, then sent to Health Canada for testing. Late last week, it was confirmed the package contained the opioid.
“This is the first confirmed case of fentanyl at a provincial correctional facility in Nova Scotia,” said the Justice Department.
The police investigation into the matter continues.
Correctional Services is in the process of installing five body scanners at adult facilities across the province.
Two of those are slated for the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility, which the province says will help protect inmates and staff from drugs, weapons and other contraband.
