The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that a number of streets in downtown Halifax will be closed to vehicles on Sunday, Sept. 23 for Switch: Open Streets.

Vehicles will not be permitted on the following streets between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday:

  • Agricola Street between Almon Street and Cunard Street. Traffic will be able to cross Agricola at North Street. Traffic signals will remain in operation and Halifax Regional Police will assist in directing pedestrian and vehicle movement.
  • Argyle Street between Prince Street and Blowers Street
  • Spring Garden Road between Queen Street and South Park Street

Motorists are encouraged to take an alternative route if they need to travel through that area.

Switch: Open Streets is a community-led initiative, organized by the Planning and Design Centre, that aims to open streets to a greater variety of transportation modes. The event is meant to encourage people to enjoy the Halifax region in a new way by walking, biking and moving around safely and comfortably on a two-kilometer route.
