Winds from ex-hurricane Lorenzo set to storm Ireland, U.K.

By The Associated Press

LONDON — British forecasters say remnants of the former hurricane now known as Storm Lorenzo are bringing very high wind gusts and possible travel disruptions to parts of Britain and Ireland.

The Met Office said wet and windy weather could come to Britain and Northern Ireland on Thursday night and early Friday.

The U.K. forecasting office said Northern Ireland would likely see wind gusts of 50 miles per hour and that gusts of up to 60 miles per hour were possible in some coastal areas.

Lorenzo has already slammed into the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea. Some island villagers were trapped in their homes after the Laxey River flooded.

The storm caused damage in the Azores on Wednesday after powering across the Atlantic.
