Two face long list of charges following Thursday search

Two people have been charged after an early morning search Thursday by the Guns and Gangs Unit and Drug Unit.

At around 5:30 a.m. yesterday, Halifax Regional Police asked the public to avoid an area of Joseph Howe Drive as they conducted an operation related to an ongoing investigation

Police now say they seized cocaine, cash, two handguns and ammunition from a residence. 

A woman and a youth were arrested at the scene and are now facing a long list of charges.

Olivia Braelee Sampson, 20, is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date to face charges of:

  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to a court order (four counts)
  • Failing to surrender weapons contrary to court order
  • Handling a firearm or restricted weapon contrary to regulations (two counts)
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (two counts)
  • Possession of a firearm without a license (two counts)
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon or ammunition without a license
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited weapon (two counts)
  • Possession of a firearm or prohibited weapon obtained by crime (two counts)
  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking (two counts)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Breach of probation (three counts) 

The 17-year-old youth is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date to face charges of:

  • Possession of a firearm contrary to a court order (four counts)
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Handling a firearm or restricted weapon contrary to regulations (two counts)
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (two counts)
  • Possession of a firearm without a license (two counts)
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon or ammunition without a license
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited weapon (two counts)
  • Possession of a firearm or prohibited weapon obtained by crime (two counts)
  • Failing to surrender weapons contrary to a court order
  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking (two counts)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Breach of probation (YCJA) (two counts)
