Man charged after collision involving police cruiser in Bedford

Halifax police have charged a man after an early morning collision in Bedford on Thursday.

At roughly 6:25 a.m., officers responded to a report of a vehicle driving dangerously on Hammonds Plains road heading toward Bedford.

Police said the vehicle had been reported stolen earlier that day, adding they found it in the 800 block of Hammonds Plains Road.

According to HRP, the driver drove into a marked police cruiser in the opposite lane, causing significant damage to both vehicles.

The driver was arrested without further incident.

Police said 31-year-old Travis Blanchard is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on Thursday to face a number of charges including assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, dangerous operation of a conveyance and motor vehicle theft, among others.
