Direct flights between Halifax, Switzerland to start next summer

There will be another option for summer travel to Europe from Halifax starting in 2025.

Halifax Stanfield International Airport has announced a new partnership with Edelweiss that will see a direct service to Switzerland starting next July.

“We’re delighted to welcome Edelweiss as our newest airline partner and to add Zurich to our ever-growing list of transatlantic routes,” said Joyce Carter, President and CEO of the Halifax International Airport Authority.

Flights will be offered on Thursdays and Sundays from July 3 to October 5. The airport authority says it takes about seven hours to fly from Halifax to Zurich.

“We anticipate that this new route will bring over 4,000 visitors to Halifax each summer, generating an economic impact exceeding 20 million Canadian dollars for the region,” says Bernd Bauer, CEO of Edelweiss. “At the same time, travellers from Atlantic Canada can now discover Switzerland more easily or take advantage of the excellent hub in Zurich to connect to almost anywhere in Europe and beyond.”
