Mooseheads face elimination after lopsided loss on home ice

Quinn Kennedy scored late in the third period, but the Halifax Mooseheads were overwhelmed on Tuesday night as the Chicoutimi Saguenéens defeated the Herd 6-1 at the Scotiabank Centre.

The Saguenéens took a 3-0 lead after the first period as Anton Linde, Jordan Tourigny and Émile Guité all found the back of the Halifax goal. The Mooseheads suffered a loss to their forward core at 17:16 of the first period as Samuel Rousseau was ejected from the game after receiving a match penalty for high-sticking Linde.

In the second, Chicoutimi continued to control as Emmanuel Vermette fired two markers past Owen Bresson.

Vermette added his third goal of the game early in the third to complete the natural hat trick before Kennedy scored his second of the postseason, snapping a pass from Liam Kilfoil past Saguenéens netminder Lucas Beckman at 13:33 to break the Chicoutimi shutout.

With the Halifax loss, the Saguenéens take a 3-0 series lead.

Chicoutimi claimed the three stars of the night. First star went to Vermette with three goals and an assist, Alex Huang earned second star with 3 assists, while third star was awarded to Guité with a goal and two assists.

The Mooseheads return to action on Wednesday as they look to avoid elimination by the Saguenéens at the Scotiabank Centre.
