Halifax Transit fares to increase September 1

As of September 1st, the adult single-ride fare for Halifax transit will increase by 25 cents to $3. Youth and senior fares will also increase by 25 cents.

A monthly adult pass jumps by $7.50 to 90 dollars.

During budget deliberations earlier this year, the council heard the 25 cent fare increase would bring in about $700,000 this year and up to $1.2 million in future years.

The increase brings the municipality in line with Moncton and Fredericton, N.B. where fares are also $3 for adults. However, this is still below places like Quebec City, for example, where riders pay $3.75.

Halifax Transit’s budget for this fiscal year is just under $68.3 million.
