Mooseheads remain unbeaten after skating past Moncton

The Halifax Mooseheads have tied their franchise-best start to a season after defeating the Moncton Wildcats 4 – 1 on Sunday.

Amelio Santini opened the scoring for the Herd, netting his first QMJHL goal in the first period. The Moosehead’s third third-round pick in the 2024 entry draft would add an assist later in the game for his first two points in the Q. Etienne Morin tied it up for the Wildcats, assisted by Preston Lounsbury and Wildcats captain Yoan Loshing.

Shawn Carrier broke the tie in his return to Moncton with a short-handed goal, firing a shot past Steinman to give the Herd a 2 – 1 lead six minutes into the second period.

Patrick McNab later rocked Wildcat Juraj Pekarcik with a devastating hit leading to a goal by Antoine Fontaine, who scored his third of the season to give the Mooseheads a 3 – 1 lead at the start of the third period. Liam Kilfoil would ice a puck into the empty net at the end of the third to seal the deal for the Herd.

Mathis Rousseau was named the game’s first star after a dominating 39-save performance, including multiple desperation saves in the second and third periods.

With the win this afternoon, the Mooseheads have tied their franchise-best start since the start of the 2018 – 2019 season, when the Herd went 4 – 0 before falling to the Ramparts.

Halifax will be back in action Monday night in Charlottetown at 2:00 p.m., and you can catch all the action live on 95.7 NewsRadio.
