Man charged with arson after ‘incendiary device’ thrown at home

The RCMP has arrested and charged a man after an attempted arson in the Halifax area.

The Mounties say on the afternoon of Oct. 3, officers were called to a home on Sherri Lane, where a man had allegedly thrown a “light incendiary device.”

Police say the fire did not damage the home.

“With the help of the public, investigators identified Shawn Michael Deschenes, 51, of Beaver Bank, as the person responsible for the incident,” police wrote in a media release. “Deschenes and the occupants of the home are known to each other.”

Deschenes was arrested after showing up to the Lower Sackville RCMP detatchment at the request of investigators.

He is facing charges including arson and was expected to have a second court appearance on Wednesday.
