Deputy premier and finance minister Allan MacMaster has announced he is seeking the federal Conservative nomination in the riding of Cape Breton-Canso-Antigonish.
In a statement on his Facebook page Thursday, MacMaster said he is resigning from cabinet but will remain on as MLA for Inverness. He said he will resign his seat if he does win the nomination.
“With the strong potential of a government change in Ottawa, it will be important for our region to be represented by someone with experience at the highest levels of government and first-hand knowledge of the issues the people of our riding are facing every day, and with a proven record of delivery,” he said.
MacMaster said he’s been proud to be a part of Tim Houston’s government and will do his part to see a PC candidate elected in his riding in the next provincial election.
