Loaded firearm and cocaine seized from Yarmouth motel

Yarmouth Rural RCMP has charged a man with firearm and drug trafficking offences.

On Dec. 24 at approximately 2:30 a.m., RCMP responded to a complaint of a distressed man at a local motel who was believed to be armed. When officers arrived they secured the motel and advised other guests to take shelter. Officers were able to safely arrest the man without incident.

No one else was in the room at the time.

Officers executed a search warrant of the motel room and seized a loaded pistol, ammunition and a quantity of cocaine.

Diontai MacDonald-Sparks, a 21-year-old from Dartmouth, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to order;
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
  • Possession of firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized;
  • Careless use of firearm;
  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition;
  • Failure to comply with probation order; and
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)

MacDonald-Sparks was taken into custody and will next appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court on Dec. 30.
