Unionized cleaners reach tentative agreement with GDI

HRM may have dodged a first-ever large-scale private sector janitorial strike.

The union representing 300 integrated facility services workers working for GDI in HRM has reached a tentative agreement with the employer.

A ratification vote has been scheduled for Saturday. The cleaners will decide whether to accept the new collective agreement or proceed with a strike starting Monday.

The union’s bargaining committee recommends that the membership approve the deal, the details of which have not been released pending the membership vote.

the workers have been without a contract since September of last year.
