The Halifax Mooseheads returned to the Scotiabank Centre Friday to begin a three-game homestand. Despite a hard fight, they fell 3-1 to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada after last weekend’s road trip in Quebec.
The Armada struck first just 53 seconds into the second period with Mateo Nobert beating Jacob Steinman with a shot from the left-hand faceoff circle on a delayed penalty. The Mooseheads responded when Brady Schultz netted his fifth goal of the season, skating around Justin Carbonneau and firing a laser past the glove of Armada goaltender Félix Hamel at 4:39 of the period. However, Blainville regained the lead with four minutes remaining in the frame. Egor Goriunov sent the puck past Steinman’s glove.
With 30 seconds left in the third period, Vincent Desjardins sealed the victory for the Armada, scoring into an empty Mooseheads net.
With the loss, the Herd drop to 16-26-7, while the Armada improve to 28-17-2.
Goriunov earned first star of the game for the Armada, scoring the game-winning goal. Jacob Steinman was named second star after making 31 saves in the loss, while Félix Hamel claimed third star honors for Blainville.
The Mooseheads return to action on Saturday, Feb. 8, when they face the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Hockey Fights Cancer Night at the Scotiabank Centre. Puck drop is at 7 p.m., and you can catch all the action live on 95.7 NewsRadio, starting with the Mr. Lube Pre-Game Show at 6:30 p.m.
