Mooseheads edge Titan on Hockey Fights Cancer Night

The Halifax Mooseheads hosted Hockey Fights Cancer night on Friday at the Scotiabank Centre and defeated the Acadie-Bathurst Titan 2-1.

Acadie-Bathurst scored the first period’s lone goal and controlled most of the action, keeping Halifax to just three shots. Middle Sackville native and Titan winger Maddex Marmulak beat Mooseheads netminder Jacob Steinman less than three minutes into the contest.

Braeden MacPhee was the hero for the Herd in the second period, tying up the score and knocking home his 13th goal of the season past Joshua Fleming up close with assists from Halifax captain Brady Schultz and Quinn Kennedy.

The Mooseheads continued applying pressure at the start of the third as Callum Aucoin scored his first as a member of the Herd. Eddy Doyle sent a shot from the point that deflected off a Titan stick, Aucoin recovered it near the crease and slid it past the pad of Fleming to give the Moose the lead.

Caylen Blake took a cross-check from Will Reynolds in the third period, crashing into the end boards. Blake made his way off the ice with some assistance and left for the remainder of the game.

The Mooseheads won their second in a row against the Titan and their second of their three-game home stand, improving to 17-26-7 while Acadie-Bathurst fall to 25-21-2.

Braeden MacPhee was awarded first star after scoring his 13th of the season, Jacob Steinman earned second star with 22 saves in the win, and third star went the Acadie-Bathurst goaltender Joshua Fleming, making 17 saves in the loss.

The Mooseheads will be back in action to wrap up their three-game homestand on Thursday, Feb. 13, as they take their provincial rivals, the Cape Breton Eagles. Puck drop is at 7 p.m., and you can listen to all the action here on 95.7 NewsRadio starting at 6:30 with the Mr. Lube Pre-Game show.
