Emergency alert test in N.S. on Wednesday

A test of the national Alert Ready system will be happening later today.

Alert Ready says there will be tests in all provinces and territories except for Quebec and Alberta on Wednesday.

In Nova Scotia, it will happen at 1:55 p.m.

The test simulates an emergency but requires no action from the public, and is part of Canada’s effort to ensure the system works and raises awareness.

Canadians cannot opt out, as the system is critical for public safety.

Regulation stipulates that the system gets tested annually

You can expect to see test alerts show up on TV, radio and devices like smartphones, along with that distinctive alert tone.

The test comes during Emergency Preparedness Week in Canada.
