Summer-like temperatures in Halifax likely to break records

It’s feeling more like August than early October in the Halifax area on Monday.

CityNews weather specialist Allister Aalders says a ridge of high pressure is drawing in unseasonably mild air, with temperatures forecast to reach the mid-to-high 20s on Monday afternoon.

“We’re likely to break some records today,” Aalders said. “At Halifax Stanfield, the old record there is 24 C and that was set back in 2005. We could also break record at Shearwater; it will be a bit more challenging, the record there is 27.8 C set back in 1946.”

Temperatures are forecast to moderate on Tuesday, Aalders says, although it will still be warmer than seasonal.

A cold front is then expected to move in on Wednesday, bringing some needed rain to the area, with temperatures on Thursday and Friday forecast to be in the low-to-mid teens.
