The Halifax Mooseheads shut out the Newfoundland Regiment 3–0 Friday night at Scotiabank Centre in the first meeting between the two franchises.
Caylen Blake opened the scoring 4:28 into the second period, tipping Carlos Händel’s shot past Regiment goaltender Antoine Proulx for the Mooseheads’ first-ever goal against the QMJHL’s newest team. Antoine Fontaine doubled the lead later in the frame, taking a long pass from Cameron Minella and firing a shot from the right faceoff circle over Proulx’s glove.
Daniel Walters sealed the win with a long-range empty-net goal late in the third period.
With the victory, Halifax improves to 7-3-0 on the season.
Mooseheads goaltender Nick Cirka earned first star honours with his first career QMJHL shutout, stopping all 32 shots he faced. Mathieu Taillefer was named second star, while Minella took third star recognition.
