Atlantic Canada’s largest cycling fundraiser is reporting a local fundraising milestone.
In its 11th event, the BMO Ride for Cancer has grown from modest community effort to raising $15 million to date for local research. Funds from Oct. 18th’s event were sitting at $2 million.
It had more than 850 participants. The top individual fundraiser was Howard Conter who raised $121,216. The top team was Robotics with $147,865.
The money goes to QEII Health Science Centre.
“This milestone belongs to every rider, donor, volunteer, and partner who has been part of this journey and to all of the individuals they’re honouring through their inspiring efforts,” says Susan Mullin, President and CEO of QEII Foundation, said. “Together, this community has transformed the future of cancer care in our region — helping ensure that Atlantic Canadians facing cancer have access to the best possible care, close to home.”
Despite its successes, the event will host its last fundraising effort in 2026.
“Not because the work is done,” Mullin said, “but because we want to give this ride — and this community — the finale it deserves.”
