Armada defeat Mooseheads 6-3 despite two-goal night from Kennedy

Quinn Kennedy had two goals and Owen Bresson made 30 saves, but it wasn’t enough as the Halifax Mooseheads fell to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada 6-3 on Thursday night at the Scotiabank Centre

The Armada opened the scoring before adding another to take a 2-0 lead after the first period. Spencer Gill scored the first for Blainville-Boisbriand at 1:44 from the right wing faceoff circle after taking a pass from Justin Carbonneau, before Carbonneau netted his own less than a minute later.

Elliot Dubé extended the Armada lead to three, ripping a pass from Ludovik Grenier past Bresson at 4:36 of the second period. The Mooseheads responded a minute later as Liam Kilfoil found Kennedy, who drove the net and sent a backhand shot past Blainville-Boisbriand netminder Zach Pelletier to cut the deficit to two.

Bill Zonnon restored the Armada’s three-goal lead at 10:13, crashing the Mooseheads net and tapping the puck past Bresson. Kennedy then scored his second of the night for the Herd at 11:27, wacking a loose puck into the Blainville-Boisbriand net. Carbonneau then became the first player of the season to reach the 50-goal marker after scoring his second of the night to give the Armada a 5-2 lead heading into the third period.

Halifax opened the scoring in the final frame at 3:00 as Shawn Carrier blasted a one-timer from the right wing faceoff circle into the Blainville-Boisbriand net on the powerplay. The Herd would suffer a bad bounce in their own end that resulted in a goal for Jacob Beaulieu at 3:55, securing the win for Blainville-Boisbriand.

With the loss, Halifax falls to 25-27-3-3 on the season.

Carbonneau was named first star of the night with a pair of goals and an assist. Kennedy was awarded second star with two goals, while third star went to Gill with a goal and an assist.

The Mooseheads return to the Scotiabank Centre on Thursday, Mar. 6 for their final home game of the regular season as they host provincial rival the Cape Breton Eagles.
