Mooseheads extend winning streak to 4 games

The Halifax Mooseheads earned their fourth straight victory Saturday afternoon for their longest winning streak of the season, defeating the Saint John Sea Dogs 4-2 at a sold out TD Station.

For the second game in a row, Caylen Blake opened the scoring for the Mooseheads on the powerplay, this time at 13:08 of the first period. Malik L’Italien found Blake at the right wing faceoff circle, firing a shot past Rafaël Courchesne. Nolann Héroux responded for the Sea Dogs at 15:39, making a key defensive play and rushing down into the Halifax end before beating Nick Cirka.

After a scoreless second period, Halifax regained their lead at 2:07 of the third as Quinn Kennedy fired a pass from Oleg Kulebiakin into the Saint John net. With that goal Kennedy reached 30 goals on the season for the first time in his QMJHL career. Shawn Carrier then added his 36th of the season, knocking a loose puck past Courchesne while a penalty shot from Liam Kilfoil extended Halifax’s lead to three. With less than a minute left in the third, Alexis Joseph cut the Mooseheads lead to two but the comeback would fall short for the Sea Dogs.

With the win, Halifax improves to 29-27-3-3 on the season.

The Sea Dogs’ graduating players were named the three stars of the game for their last regular season at TD Station. Angello Fullerton was named first star, Maxime Côté was the second star, and Julien Wasmer took third star.

The Mooseheads are back in action on Friday, Mar. 20 for the first game of a season ending weekend series against the Newfoundland Regiment at Mary Brown’s Centre.

Puck drop is set for 6:30 p.m. Live coverage is available on 95.7 NewsRadio with Garreth MacDonald.
