Nova Scotia RCMP is raising the alarm on thefts of alcohol at NSLC stores across the province.
This comes after a number of incidents involving products being stolen, including one incident which saw officers seize more than 450 bottles of alcohol worth almost $20,000 from a home in HRM.
According to the Mounties, alcohol stolen from NSLC stores could end up being sold on the black market to children, and because it is unregulated, it puts public safety in jeopardy.
RCMP Sgt. Serge Landry told 95.7 NewsRadio there are ways to help prevent these incidents from happening.
“Make the high ticket items, the ones that are high traffic items, make them harder to get at,” he said. “Secure them, lock them behind the cabinet or when you order online, somebody from the back has to bring it up to you.”
He went on to say there has been a drop in thefts at NSLC stores, and having witnesses and security cameras are good tools for tackling these crimes.
