Long-term care home strike expands in N.S., now into 5th week

Workers from more long-term care homes are joining a provincewide strike as the union and the Nova Scotia government are still unable to come to a deal.
Two more long-term care facilities are joining the strike on Thursday which is entering its 5th week.
Inverary Manor in Inverness and Foyer Pere Fiset in Cheticamp are the two facilities impacted, bringing the total number of long-term care homes on strike to 34.
According to CUPE, that means there are now roughly 3,300 workers on the picket lines across the province.
Last week, the two sides returned to the bargaining table but were still unable to reach a deal with both sides accusing each other of offer proposals that weren’t feasible.
The province says it is offering pay increases of at least 12 per cent over four years, while some workers would see pay bumps of 24 per cent.
