Gas, diesel prices see decrease in N.S. amid reopening of Strait of Hormuz

Motorists woke up on Friday to lower fuel prices ahead of the weekend.

In its weekly adjustment, the Nova Scotia Energy Board dropped regular self-serve gasoline prices by 4.5 cents to 165.3 cents per litre.

The price of diesel also experienced its third decrease of the week, going down to 185.4 cents per litre, a drop of just over a cent.

The provincial regulator had invoked two interrupter clauses earlier in the week, dropping diesel prices by nearly 16 cents since Monday.

On those occasions, the board said the change was necessary due to shifts in global oil prices.

The U.S. lifted its blockade of Iran on Thursday as the tentative agreement to end the war with Iran took effect.

Oil tankers began freely moving through the Strait of Hormuz after months of being unable to use the critical channel.

One year ago, the price of gas was 1.39 and diesel was 1.47 in Nova Scotia.
