Province won’t force teachers to work on storm days

Nova Scotia’s education minister says storm day policies are up to individual school boards.
Marilyn More was responding to a consultant’s recomendation that
teachers go to work when schools are closed due to weather – unless it’s a major storm.
more does say there are benefits to teachers getting together at school without the pressure of classroom duties.
“Certainly, we hear from educators all over the province that they really struggle to find the time they need together to plan and take a team approach to some of their responsibilities,” she said.
However, More says her department won’t force anyone to come in on a storm day.
Energy Minister Bill Estabrooks, a former educator, says in his day, he’d go in to school on storm days as soon as the weather died down in order to get some work done.
