Border agents seize ‘suspected cocaine’ in Halifax

Border agents have seized close to 500 kilograms of “suspected cocaine” at the port of Halifax, according to a release from the Canada Border Services Agency.

Officers discovered the drugs in a commercial cargo shipment from Argentina last Wednesday.

The cargo was described as being more than 1,000 cases of alcohol, but an x-ray revealed inconsistencies.

Border agents discovered eight duffle bags containing a total of 400 bricks of cocaine, each weighing about a kilogram.

This is the second major drug seizure this year at the port of Halifax, after close to 50 kilograms of cocaine was found hidden in a cargo shipment in May.
