HRM publishes final proposal for redrawn polling districts

Your local politicians will have just a few days to get feedback on a proposal for new voting districts before they vote on it next Tuesday.

City staff spent weeks touring a pair of proposals around HRM, after the Utility and Review Board forced the city to reduce the number of polling districts from 23 to 16. Staff explained what had to happen and asked the public for suggestions.

At 5pm Friday, staff published the resulting map on the web. It’s a 20-megabyte PDF download.

Staff are proposing a revised version of ‘Scenario 1’, which splits peninsular Halifax into two voting districts.

Council will vote on the proposal at the regular meeting on Tuesday, with the city due to file its submission to the UARB next Friday.
