Police ask people to report when drivers pass school bus with lights flashing

With the school year well underway, the Halifax Regional Police (HRP) is reminding drivers to be careful around school buses, especially when their red lights are flashing.

This means a child is getting off the bus and drivers are required to stop to allow children to get to their homes safely.

Failing to stop and passing a bus while lights are flashing is not only illegal but it could lead to a child being seriously injured or killed.

Passing a school bus when its red lights are flashing can land people a $410 fine for a first offence and six points on their license.

The HRP is inviting the public to share the locations of bus stops where they witnessed drivers passing school buses illegally by commenting on a video on the HRP’s Facebook page.

People can access the video by clicking here.
