Man charged with child pornography and child luring offences

A man has been charged with several child pornography related offences following an investigation conducted by the RCMP’s Provincial Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit.

Investigators were directed to a residence on Oak Park Road in Riverhead after a social media application notified officials that child pornography has been transmitted via their service.

On June 3, the ICE Unit, assisted by Barrington RCMP, Shelburne RCMP and RCMP Digital Forensic Services, executed a search warrant at the home and safely arrested a 41-year-old man.

Through the investigation police has also learned the man had communicated with a child in Newfoundland and had sent sexually explicit material. Authorities were able to locate the victim and gather evidence.

As a result of the investigation, Robert Nickerson, 41, has been charged with:

  • Possession of Child Pornography;
  • Distribution of Child Pornography;
  • Luring a Child; and
  • Making Sexually Explicit Material Available to a Child.

The suspect was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court on Sept. 2.

The RCMP say they are aware that there could be more victims. Officials are asking anyone with any information to contact police.
