Youth charged in weapons complaint, robbery

A 14-year-old youth has been charged with robbery and firearm offences following an incident in Halifax.

Police say it happened around 8:50 p.m. Friday. Officers responded to a weapons complaint near a transit terminal in the 5200 block of Barrington Street.

Officers say there were several youths in the area at the time of the incident. A press release notes that one person fired a pellet gun at two victims and took a bag. Another youth was sprayed with a sensory irritant in the incident.

Responding officers located a group of youth fleeing from the terminal. One youth was apprehended and placed under arrest.

During the arrest, officers located and seized a pellet gun. The victim’s bag was also recovered.

Police say the second suspect was not located.

The victims were treated on scene for non-life-threatening injuries.

The 14-year-old youth is now facing a laundry list of charges, including:

  • Two counts of robbery;
  • Two counts of assault with a weapon;
  • pointing a firearm;
  • discharging a restricted weapon;
  • possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace;
  • carrying a concealed weapon;
  • disguise with intent; and
  • resisting arrest.

The investigation is ongoing.
