Four day heat wave fizzles

You’ll probably get a better night’s sleep tonight, now that the four day heat wave is fizzling.

It will feel more like typical July weather this week in Nova Scotia, with cloudy skies, scattered showers and highs up to 24 Tuesday through Saturday.

Temperature records fell around the region each of the last four days.

“We hit temperatures that varied anywhere between 30 and 34 degrees across Nova Scotia on Sunday,” said News 95.7 meteorologist Richard Zurawski. “The humidex in Halifax made it feel close to 40 degrees, breaking records that were more than a decade old.”

Although we’ll see cooler temperatures this week, expect more heat waves before the summer is over.

“The long term outlook is calling for additional warm weather over the next three months,” said Zurawski. “And I would expect to see more heat waves pop up in July and August.”

Zurawski says it’s very unusual to have this kind of prolonged heat wave in July.

Meantime, a new tropical storm has formed in the Atlantic with warnings out for Barbados and St. Lucia Monday. Zurawski says it’s still to early to say whether Tropical Storm Chantal will make its way to the Maritimes.
