HRM Council could meet bi-weekly

Halifax Regional Municipality council will vote today on whether to stay with weekly council meetings or move to a bi-weekly schedule.
This change would lower the number of meetings from 34 to 24 a year.
Dartmouth Councillor Gloria McCluskey said she is against the proposed change.
She said a committee brought the motion forward with the reasoning that other cities in Canada only meet twice a month.
“It’s what the people want here,” said McClusky, “I don’t care what they want in Vancouver or Regina or any place.”
She added residents tell her they look forward to the weekly televised meeting and rely on it to know what’s happening with their government.
Bedford-Wentworth Councillor Tim Outhit says he’s also not interested in the proposed change.
“Not meeting for the sake of meeting but when we have a reason to meet whether it’s once a week or twice a week or three times a month, lets meet,” said Outhit.
He says he’s going to propose council adopts a “question period” where the public can submit questions and councillors can answer them.
