Big Lift project delayed again; expected completion now Spring 2018

By Chris Halef

The Big Lift re-decking project has been postponed once again, according to Halifax Harbour Bridges.

The project was originally supposed to be completed by this fall, but now has been pushed back until next year.

This comes after numerous hiccups have already delayed the project, and now it is expected to be completed in spring of 2018.

Halifax Harbour Bridges CEO Steve Snider says there is still work left to do.

“It truly does feel like bits and pieces because we have all the paving done,” said Snider. “But the last thing they'll be doing in April or May is attaching travellers to the underside of the deck, and they're still being fabricated.”

He goes on to say a de-humidification system must still be added, describing it as a “major piece to ensure the safety of cables.”

Snider says the continuous overnight closures are scheduled to end November 24, but he adds there will be approximately 20 to 30 periodic closures between then the projects completion date.
