Water main repaired, precautionary boil water advisory lifted (update)

A water main break in Lower Sackville has now been repaired.

Halifax Water says customers may still have low water pressure this evening as the distribution system refills.

“Water service may take a few hours to reach customers further away from the site of the repair, but the flow of water is coming,” said the utility.

Discoloured water may also be an issue for those living in the red shaded region (see photo above).

Customers are asked to let the water run until it clears up before drinking it. 

The precautionary boil water advisory has now been lifted for residents and businesses in the blue shaded area (see photo above).

However, Halifax Water is asking impacted customers complete the following steps:

• Flush any cold water taps for ten minutes.
• Most kitchen and other household water filters typically do not remove bacteria or viruses; please follow manufacturer's instructions for maintenance on these units.
• Fridges or other appliances that may store water should also be flushed for ten minutes.
• Dispose of any ice that was made by an ice maker or ice cube tray during the precautionary boil water advisory.
