Critics question carbon cost of Copenhagen trip

Nova Scotia’s Liberals are questioning why so many government representatives are traveling to the climate summit in Copenhagen.
Liberal energy and environment critic Andrew Younger says only one political representative from Nova Scotia is necessary.
“I could see some merit in one minister going along with the business delegation,” Younger said. “This entire delegation of political staffers and two ministers makes no sense.”
Premier Darrell Dexter and Environment Minister Sterling Belliveau will be showcasing the province’s green energy initiatives during the U.N. conference.
Younger points out neither will be participating in talks and calls their trip a “glorified tradeshow.”
“They’re going to a climate summit and they’re going to use almost one-and-a-half tons of carbon each to get there with a whole slew of people,” he said. “You could have sent one person to support the businesses that are going.”
He adds it takes less than 0.4 tons to travel to Ottawa.
