No committee cash for Dexter

The premier of Nova Scotia says he won’t be accepting money for chairing a government committee that doesn’t meet.
The controversy was brought to light last week that the premier is to be paid $2000 for chairing a committee that hasn’t met in 15 years.
House speaker Charlie Parker will get $3000 for chairing another that hasn’t met in four and a half years.
Dexter expects he or parker won’t be seeing the money.
“I haven’t had a chance to talk with the finance minister about this,” said the premier. “However I’m sure he won’t be advancing any more money for chair responsibilities that don’t exist.”
He says maybe the committees should begin meeting again.
“We’ll have a look at the committee and see if it actually fills a function,” Dexter said. “If it fills no function than why does it exist in the first place?”
Dexter says he was aware he chaired the committee but hadn’t had a chance to look at its role. He sat on the same committee for a number of years while in opposition, but wasn’t aware of it.
