Temperatures will turn frigid today

Get ready to crank the thermostat.

A cold snap is headed to the Maritimes today, and meterologist Richard Zurawski says we’ll see temperatures plummeting to about minus six or minus seven by late afternoon – with a pretty serious windchill on top.

“Bundle up this evening and tonight,” said Zurawski. “If you happen to be about and about for the Christmas parties, make sure you’re dressed really warmly. We’ve got windchill values down to minus 20, 25 degrees tonight.”

Zurawski says drivers should also watch for black ice on the roads tonight and tomorrow.

He says this is the same system that paralyzed the prairies over the weekend, but it won’t be as severe and will only last a day or two.
