A happy ending to a story of some a senior citizen and her lost money.
The owner of a Dartmouth restaurant has reunited one of his customers with an envelope stuffed with cash, just in time for Christmas.
Two women and three girls had a meal Saturday night at at the Gardenview Chinese Restaurant on Main Street in Dartmouth and the older of the two women dropped the envelope as they were leaving.
Waitress Laura McKinnon, 21, tells CTV News she found the envelope with the cash inside after they’d gone.
“I thought they were going to come back that night, becuase it wasn’t a small amount of cash,” she said. “It wasn’t $20, it was a lot of money.”
The cash was actually well over $500. The woman paid for the meal in cash, so owner Greg Fong says the restaurant staff had no idea who she was. But he says they wanted to get her money back to her because it’s a lot to lose, especially at this time of year.
“I just hate to have the feeling that there’s someone out there, just really suffering as a result of an accident like this,” he said.
CBC reports the woman happily retrieved the cash on Monday night after seeing television news coverage about the restaurant and her lost cash.
