HRM wants your opinion on HRM

Haligonians are going to get their say.
The Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting residents to take part in a citywide survey with itself as the focus. Invitations will be reaching over 2,600 mailboxes in the New Year. Residents must first complete the request form before filling out the survey online, by phone or on paper.
Mayor Peter Kelly explains council is looking for frank honest opinions, even if residents don’t have nice things to say about the municipality.
“That’s a chance we can learn and improve what we do. It’s an opportunity to get feedback and whether it’s good, bad or otherwise it’s a chance to make things better,” Kelly tells News 95.7.
The mayor adds there are a few areas where he’d like to see improvements such as making HRM more environmentally sustainable. He also queries whether council and its operations are too large.
A few people we spoke to mentioned the winter parking ban, snow clearing, taxi and transit services and property taxes as hot topics. Most residents we spoke to said they would take the time to complete the survey.
Citizens will be asked a wide range of questions on topics including recreation, leisure and culture, community infrastructure and the environment.
Thinkwell Research, an independent firm, is promising to keep all surveys confidential. They should be completed by January 31.
