Short-lived winning streak ends for Halifax Mooseheads

The Halifax Mooseheads didn’t put in the effort needed to get their third straight win.
They dropped a 4-2 decision to the Shawinigan Cataractes Tuesday night at Metro Centre.
“We’re a pretty ordinary hockey club when we don’t bring our work ethic and enthusism,” says assistant coach Chris Donnelly.
“Very sloppy, lots of bad passes, you’ve got to give shawinigan credit they really pressured us and our young guys didn’t really handle the pressure well.”
That sloppy play lead to an early 2-0 lead for Shawinigan including a goal that seemed to go directly through Mathieu Corbeil’s glove.
“I don’t think the guys did Mathieu much of a service in the early going, we were caught standing around,” says Donnelly.
“He’d probably like to have that second one back but he battled back and made some big saves.”
Team captain Tomas Knotek, managed a beautiful goal at the end of the first period to make it 2-1.
“I know that he hasn’t felt the greatest, sometimes you put that pressure on yourself, a lot of those guys came back after those world juniors adn their drained, it’s very emotionally draining,” says Donnelly.
However, Shawinigan struck again when Philippe Paradis managed a goal just 51 seconds into the frame. New acquisition, Andrew Wigginton got his first goal of the season when he rushed up ice at the end of a Mooseheads penalty kill.
But the third period belonged to Shawinigan with goals from Pierre-Alexandre and Vandall Raphaël Pouliot to restore a two-goal lead and the Mooseheads just didn’t have the jump to come back from the deficit.
