Dartmouth man facing life for beating death

A Dartmouth man has been convicted of murder in a beating death in Dartmouth two years ago.
Shane Ward, 35, was found guilty Monday of second-degree murder in the death of Phillip Love of Dartmouth.
Love was beaten with a baseball bat in his home in January 2007 and died a week later in hospital.
The victim and Shane Ward were celebrating Ward’s younger brother’s birthday that night.
The younger brother, Matthew Ward, was convicted of assault on Monday and sentenced to time served.
Shane Ward automatically gets a life sentence but could be eligible for parole in 10 years.
A hearing on parole eligibility has been set for April 1.
