RCMP won’t take possible removal from HRM lying down

A veteran RCMP officer is speaking out about the potential demise of the Mounties in HRM.
“We are a proud professional organization,” says SSgt. Murray Brown. “We just celebrated our 75th anniversary here in the province of Nova Scotia. Are we going to sit back and be passive about this? No we’re not.”
HRM’s police commission is reportedly set to recommend regional police take over RCMP territory in the outlying areas of the city.
Brown is wondering what this is really all about.
“Is this a policing issue, or is this a budget issue by politicians that are going to try and sneak this through when there are other issues,” says Brown.
Brown wonders whether it will be a money saver. In Sydney, there are questions whether a similar move nine years ago has actually saved any money.
The police commission will sit down with Halifax Regional Council Monday at a closed-door meeting.
