Man facing two charges after bomb threat in Halifax

A 54-year-old man will be in a Halifax courtroom on Tuesday to face charges in relation to a bomb threat that evacuated the downtown the day prior.
On Monday morning, Halifax Regional Police said they found a vehicle in Purdy’s Wharf parkade that was suspicious. An emergency alert was sent and police started evacuating the downtown for a bomb threat.
At the same time police said they arrested a man wanted in connection with the incident near the Canada Games Centre.
The police explosive disposal unit responded to the area and ushering out dozens of people from the area.
“A propane tank and several containers believed to contain flammable liquid could be seen inside the vehicle,” police detailed.
By 2:00 p.m. the situation had been resolved and the evacuation order was lifted.
Ali Assakereh, 54, is facing charges of uttering threats and public mischief in relation to the investigation, which police say is ongoing.
