Ousted MLA may be mulling new party allegiance

Now that MLA Trevor Zinck has been indefinitely ousted from the NDP, there’s a question of whether he’ll cross the floor to join another party.
Premier Darrell Dexter says he can’t envision a scenario in which Zinck would be welcomed back into the fold.
“It’s very difficult to see, at this point,” said Dexter. “If he could adequately discharge the burden that is upon him in relation to all these matters then he could approach caucus and we would consider that at the point in time,”
The Dartmouth North MLA is sitting as an independant following his suspension from the NDP caucus over irregularities with his constituency expenses.
Liberal leader Stephen McNeil says he spoke with Zinck by phone and will meet with him later in the week – but he has not been invited to join the Grits.
“I have no idea what the situation is,” “I think it’s an opprtunity to allow Trevor to have his say…but he’s not been given an opportunity to join our caucus.”
Interim PC leader Karen Casey says Zinck contacted her office, but there is no invitation for him to join her party at this time.
“He was speaking with a member of our caucus, he was not speaking with me,” she said. “I think he was just looking for a friend.”
Casey says if Zinck asks to join the Tories, there would be a full caucus discussion before making the decision.
